Can we afford to ignore emotions?

In the last post, we realized we have choices when confronted with our emotions: We can choose to ignore the bad feeling ones, and feel better immediately. But can we afford to ignore them? Can we simply ignore every awareness that does NOT return an emotionally pleasant experience?

Certainly we can safely ignore all awarenesses which do NOT have emotional components. They regard something of no particular value, care or concern.

I find emotional attachment only where I find belief of perceived value.  The question of action depends on the value of action which is just another way of saying what is believed about reality:

  • What do we value
  • What are our action options regarding our “valued”
  • What are the results / risks to our valued associated with each action option
  • Which options have imminently impending requirements and their results / risks
  • Are the risks of inaction acceptable regarding our “valued” desires.

Action is inherent

The presence of active objects implies action by definition. Our bodies, as active objects themselves, appear designed to “take action”, “act upon” and manipulate other physical objects.  They appear designed to sense, assess and act.  Our physical reality is a system of object manipulation before it is anything else. It exists to facilitate interaction between the objects!

Belief in Acting

In our “physical” experience, we always act! It should be intuitively obvious: we have fundamental core beliefs about taking action. As natural as sentence structure, we act when we have an object of value (subject) and a valued action (verb).  The two together determine the value of action or motivation.

If we are driving our car across a railroad track and see a train coming.  We feel compelled to take immediate action to avoid an imminent collision.  There is little we value more than life. When we believe life is imminently threatened, we take the best immediately effective action we believe in.  We are highly motivated to immediately assess the risks and take timely action.

When we believe our values are less impacted and we believe we have many unknowns, we may assess inaction as appropriate. Yet, with all assessments and actions ( including inaction), we ALWAYS act in accord with our beliefs of value and action opportunity/requirement

Change

If we act in ways we would like to change, we must understand the beliefs that support the current action and we must change either our values or the action beliefs that drive the actions we want changed.

If we want to change our life experience, we must first:

  • have beliefs that allow us to affect our life experience
  • understand the beliefs behind the current experience
  • change either the value or action beliefs that drive the experience we want.

For some, that may require changing core beliefs; adopting beliefs that say we CAN change our life experience.
If we change what we believe, Anything is possible. Believe it! Realize it!

I was just listening a man talking about emotions too and something very interesting he said about love. Love is not just matter of feeling but decisions. because there is not “the perfect person” (well… I have the person that breaks the rules do.-LOL-) people will let you down or will not stand up to your standards. There fore you have to: decide to love, decide to care, decide to respect decide ….etc.
