{"id":318,"date":"2010-05-15T12:01:44","date_gmt":"2010-05-15T16:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/believeit.us\/?p=318"},"modified":"2010-05-16T17:15:05","modified_gmt":"2010-05-16T21:15:05","slug":"can-we-afford-to-ignore-emotions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/believeit.us\/?p=318","title":{"rendered":"Can we afford to ignore emotions?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the last post, we realized we have choices when confronted\u00a0with our emotions:\u00a0We can choose to ignore the bad feeling ones, and feel better immediately. But can we afford to ignore them? Can we simply ignore every awareness that does NOT return an emotionally pleasant experience?<\/p>\n<p>Certainly we can safely ignore all awarenesses which do NOT have\u00a0emotional components. They regard something of no particular value, care or concern.<\/p>\n<p>I find emotional attachment only where I find belief of perceived value.\u00a0 The question of action depends on the value of action which is just another way of saying what is believed about reality:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>What do we value<\/li>\n<li>What are our action options regarding our &#8220;valued&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>What are the results \/ risks to our valued associated with each action option<\/li>\n<li>Which options have imminently impending requirements and their results \/ risks<\/li>\n<li>Are the risks of inaction acceptable regarding our &#8220;valued&#8221;\u00a0desires.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Action is inherent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The presence of active objects implies action by definition. Our bodies, as active objects themselves, appear designed to &#8220;take action&#8221;, &#8220;act\u00a0upon&#8221; and manipulate other physical objects.\u00a0 They appear designed to sense, assess and act.\u00a0 Our physical reality is a system of object manipulation before it is anything else. It exists to facilitate interaction between the objects!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belief in Acting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In our\u00a0&#8220;physical&#8221; experience, we always act! It should be intuitively obvious: we have fundamental core beliefs about taking action.\u00a0As natural as sentence structure, <strong>we act <\/strong>when we have an <strong>object of value<\/strong> (subject) and a <strong>valued action <\/strong>(verb).\u00a0 The two together determine the <strong>value of action\u00a0<\/strong>or <strong>motivation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If we are driving our car across a railroad track and see a train coming.\u00a0\u00a0We feel compelled to take immediate action to avoid an imminent collision.\u00a0 There is little we <strong>value <\/strong>more than <strong>life<\/strong>. When we <em>believe <\/em>life is imminently <strong>threatened<\/strong>, we take <strong>the best immediately effective action <\/strong>we <em>believe in<\/em>.\u00a0 We are highly motivated to immediately assess the risks and take timely action.<\/p>\n<p>When <em>we believe <\/em>our values are less impacted and we <em>believe <\/em>we have many unknowns, we may assess <strong>inaction <\/strong>as <strong>appropriate<\/strong>. Yet,\u00a0with all assessments and actions ( including inaction), we ALWAYS act in accord with our <em>beliefs <\/em>of <strong>value and action opportunity\/requirement<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If we act in ways we would like to change, we must <strong>understand the beliefs <\/strong>that support the current action and we must <strong>change <\/strong>either our <strong>values <\/strong>or the <strong>action beliefs <\/strong>that drive the actions we want changed.<\/p>\n<p>If we want to change our <strong>life experience<\/strong>, we must first:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>have beliefs that allow us to affect our life experience<\/li>\n<li>understand the beliefs behind the current experience<\/li>\n<li><strong>change <\/strong>either the <strong>value or action <em>beliefs <\/em><\/strong>that drive the experience we want.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For some, that may require changing <em>core beliefs<\/em>; adopting beliefs that say <strong>we CAN change <\/strong>our life experience.<br \/>\nIf we change what we believe, <strong>Anything is possible. Believe it!
