Can we believe <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before we know if we can<\/em><\/strong>, we first have to know what it\nmeans to believe. Straight away, asking if we can<\/em><\/strong> tells us the word believe<\/em><\/strong>\nis an action word, something that can be done<\/em><\/strong> or performed, known in\nEnglish as a verb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Believe is a physical act of self, or if you prefer a\nphysical act one\u2019s self can do or perform.  All acts and activities are actions that begin\nwith the self mentally concluding a<\/em><\/strong> decision <\/em><\/strong>or intention<\/em><\/strong>\nto change,\nreposition or move <\/em><\/strong>in relation to one\u2019s current position. Verbs describe\nactions for transitioning or changing positions of an object subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of a believe activity, a person acts upon a subject\nbelief. A belief is a concept describing reality or the characteristics of\nreality. A believe activity concludes a decision or intention to change,\nreposition or move from one\u2019s currently held beliefs to a new set of beliefs describing\nreality or characteristics of reality. A believe action intends a transition from\nthe current body of beliefs to a new body of beliefs adding the latest decided belief\nto the body of beliefs we call reality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concepts that we have concluded a decision and intention to believe\nare adopted as true of reality. Called truth, each decided belief is added to\nthe ever increasing body of truth(s) we believe of reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We live by faith which\ncomes from hearing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romans 1:17 (ESV) <\/strong>
\n17 <\/sup> For in it the righteousness of\nGod is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, \u201cThe righteous <\/strong>shall live by faith<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romans 10:17 (ESV) <\/strong>
\n17 <\/sup> So faith comes from\nhearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hebrews 4:2 (NIV) <\/strong>
\n2 <\/sup> For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they\ndid; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who\nheard did not combine it with faith<\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith comes from hearing<\/strong>\nthe word, but not by hearing alone. Hearing<\/em><\/strong> must be combined with believing<\/em><\/strong> and\nreliance<\/strong> before faith can appear. Hearing\nand believing isn\u2019t faith however. Only after hearing, believing and relying\nupon it<\/em><\/strong> do we have faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith is<\/strong> nothing\nmore that the application of hearing and\nbelieving such that the belief decided is followed by an act of reliance<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith is kind is like being pregnant, you either are or\naren\u2019t. Faith takes an act in reliance before it is called faith. Even if hearing\nand belief occurs, if one doesn\u2019t act to conclude belief<\/em><\/strong> and form an attitude\nof reliance<\/em><\/strong>, there is no faith. Action must be added or combined to hearing\nbefore believing what\u2019s heard becomes faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith is\naction based upon a belief relied upon as true<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key active actions of faith are two fold:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. deciding to believe what was heard<\/li>
  2. relying upon what is believed <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Every reliant action taken in response to the concluded belief is a Faith\naction<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em> regardless of how\ncredible, certain or uncertain one is of the belief. While credibility is a\nmeasure of how believable a concept is, Faith is not limited to credible\nbeliefs or incredible. Regardless of how certain, faith is concluded by reliant\naction taken based upon the decided belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Examples:
    \nI may be promised some payment from a person of questionable credibility of\nincredulous doubtful character. If I decide<\/em>\nto trust<\/em> him at his word and make a\nloan expecting his promise<\/em> of\npayment, it is an act of faith when I give him the loan expecting him to honor\nhis word. I am applying faith in the belief I\u2019ll be paid as promised.  When a promise is heard, I can show my faith\nby making the loan. But ONLY if I believe the promise heard and make the loan\nrelying upon it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Likewise, we take a step of faith\nevery time we step out of bed expecting to stand upright even though we\u2019ve\nproven such faith has been well placed many times before as we relied upon our\nbelief and stepped out of bed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Even if I have God promise he will\nbless everything I put my hand to and profess I believe it. If I never put my\nhand to anything relying or expecting what\u2019s promised, the hearing and\nbelieving have failed to produce faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Wholly committed heart & mind <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Deciding to believe what is heard is more than just deciding\nyou believe you heard something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Faith is more than just a response<\/em><\/strong> to hearing. Faith is a response  <\/em><\/strong>of intellectually believing<\/em><\/strong> with decided reliance upon <\/em><\/strong>and expectation<\/em><\/strong> of what is promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If hearing receives a response of expectation without belief,\nfaith is blind and referred to as blind faith. While debatable if a blind faith\nresponse is even possible, mere hearing without a response is most certainly\nNOT faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The faith that God requires is a response of believing that\ncomes after hearing his word and deciding to believe it and forming a reliant\nexpectation based upon it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Yet, faith is often spoken of as being of degrees, as in\nlittle or weak:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Luke 12:28 (NASB77) <\/strong>
    \n28 <\/sup> “But if God so arrays the grass in the field, which is\nalive<\/em> today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will\nHe clothe<\/em> you, O men of little faith<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Romans 14:1-2 (NIV) <\/strong>
    \n1 <\/sup> Accept him whose faith\nis weak<\/strong>, without passing judgment on disputable matters.
    \n2 <\/sup> One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another\nman, whose faith is weak<\/strong>, eats only\nvegetables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Here I believe the weak or little refers to the commitment made to hold, to keep, to live<\/strong>\nin whole hearted accord with the belief: \nthe word heard is:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • true of reality, <\/em><\/strong>and  <\/strong><\/em><\/li>
    • If a wordof promise<\/em><\/strong>, it will\nbe<\/em><\/strong> fulfilled; it is expected<\/em><\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      In faith, the word is believed as defining reality whether\nit be a statement of present reality or a promise of a future reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      To the degree a person is certain in their decision to\nbelieve and to rely upon the belief decided we find the strength of faith,\nwhether it is little and weak, great and strong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Uncertainty of belief or reliance is often defined as doubt.\nBut doubt is not unbelief. There is no faith in unbelief just as there is no\nfaith without belief. Still struggling to understand the concept of Blind faith\nreliance, I believe the blind aspect may cover a person that believes and\nrelies, but is unable to articulate what is actually being believed or relied\nupon in making a response of reliance. Possibly a blind faith response is one\ntaken based upon some other belief than what was heard; ie, believing all Monday\nproposals are superstitiously reliable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In Christian faith, God\u2019s words are believed true and its promises\ntrue and expected with the whole heart, soul and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n27\n And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy\nheart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all\nthy mind<\/em><\/strong>; and thy neighbour as thyself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Acts 11:23 (KJV) <\/strong>
      \n23 <\/sup> Who, when he came, and had\nseen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart<\/strong> they would cleave unto\nthe Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n23 <\/sup> When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad,\nand he exhorted them all to remain faithful<\/strong>\nto the Lord with steadfast purpose<\/strong>, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n23 <\/sup> When he arrived and saw what grace (favor) God was\nbestowing upon them, he was full of joy; and he continuously exhorted (warned,\nurged, and encouraged) them all to cleave unto and remain faithful to and\ndevoted to the Lord with [resolute and\nsteady] purpose of heart<\/strong>.
      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Life – We live our lives in relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Every identifable aspect of what it means to be human and a\npart of mankind is defined by relationship. A human being is nothing except as\nhe 0r she relates to all around them. We can not be described, and we have no\npersonal characteristics except as seen against the background of our\nrelationships found within our environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You say you have personal characticss such as feet and hands.\nBut, what is a foot without the ground or the earth that it walks upon, or a\nhand without the objects it can touch, grasp and hold. We are identifiable ONLY\nbecause we are part of an environment filled with  relationships. Our person is defined by our\nrelationships and our personality<\/em> is\ndefined according to how we identify what we value with in those\nrelationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Quality of Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Our personality is seen in our attitudes toward our\nrelationships; which do we value most; which do we relate to with greatest\npreference, which are we passionate about, which do we loath and avoid. Such\nare referred to as our interests. The most highly valued capture our attention they\ndetermine what we attend to and focus upon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The more highly valued, the more they hold fascination, the\nability to capture or fasten our focus upon them. Indeed, whether we perceive our\nmost highly valued as threatened, about to be lost, or about to come fully within\nour grasp and possession, our most valued hold and keep our focus upon them. The\nvictory in the latter is the glory of the pursuit. It is glorious because we\nfind fulfillment highly satisfying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      When we identify, pursue and obtain our most highly valued preferences,\nwe find a sense of fulfillment. We call this fulfillment – value fulfillment<\/strong>, the glory<\/strong>\nof a victorious pursuit.  Quality\nof life<\/em><\/strong> is directly related to recognizing the pursuits of our most\nvalued relationships result in glorious valued fulfillments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The mixure of our most highly valued to our least valued are\nunique to every person and what makes us identifable as individuals and unique\npersonalities. Our ability to discern preferences is innate. Our creator endowed\nus with the ability to discern a\npreference<\/strong> and with that ability, a free\nwill<\/strong> to choose what to pursue as our most valued  and with that will, the liberty<\/strong> to pursue the most fulfilling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Life is what we do<\/em><\/strong> as we identify\nour most valued relationships and apply our liberty in pursuit of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      As with all relationships there are defining aspects or\ncharacteristics that identify the relationship. These identify the relationship\nand make it identifiable. The single most important aspect of any thriving relationship\nis each party\u2019s faithfulness to the defining charactistics, faithfullness to perform\nand comply with the aspects that identify the relationship and keep it\nfulfilling. When the defining aspects of a relationship break down and fade,\nthe relationship begins to break down, it becomes less fulfilling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Godnews \u2013 Gospel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The most important relationship for a Christian is their\nrelationship with their God. For the Christian, the defining charactistics of God\u2019s\nrelationship toward them is known as the Good News or Gospel. The Gospel identifies\nthe characteristics God  commits or\nextends toward us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      God is not deciding how he will relate to us. He is not\nadapting to an evolving attitude and shifting is his commitments committed to this\nrelationship. The details were set long ago, written and identified. What God\nhas identified as the Gospel is NOT subject to revision nor is he impotent that\nhe can not fulfill. He has committed his response to us. He does not lie or\nchange his mind. He says what he means and means what he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Numbers 23:19 (ESV) <\/strong>
      \n19 <\/sup> God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that\nhe should change his mind. Has he said<\/em>,\nand will he not<\/strong> do it<\/strong>? Or has he spoken<\/em><\/strong>, and will he not fulfill it<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n


      In the Gospel, God reveals an abundant  life in relationship with him<\/strong>. God is not a man sitting at a far distant location. His nature and the fuller nature of our being is non-local existing outside of time and space as we know it. Within the domain of our souls, we are of one mind and one spirit with the aspects he has extended toward us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
